The role of  AFID is to promote, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of interventions aimed at food and income security for communities in the East and Central African (ECA)region.

The vision of AFID is to foster empowered communities that contribute to the development of the ECA region through the Private Sector.

AFID organisation concept was developed in 2004 and registered in 2005 with the aim of fostering Market Access, Enterprise Development and Institutional Development, towards enhancing Food and Income security at community level within Eastern and Central Africa region.

AFID was strengthened through the Capacity Building activities of various networks of Association for Strengthening Agriculture Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA). These networks focus on research and development in: Soil and Water Management, Agro forestry, Coffee, and Livestock
